Root Canal Non - Surgical Treatment After Care
- a) Avoid eating until the numbness subsides completely to avoid injuries.
- b) Take Ibuprofen tablets (600mg) every 4 to 6 hours for three days.
- If you cannot take NSAIDs(Advil/Ibuprofen/Motrin, etc) or if you are allergic to Aspirin, take Tylenol (500-1000 mg) every 4 to 6 hours for three days. If you cannot take any of these, please consult with us.
- c) If you receive a prescription, please follow the instructions.
- c) Please return to your general dentist for final restoration placement promptly.
- d) Avoid chewing hard food to minimize chances of tooth fracture until the final restoration is place.
- f) Please contact our office in case of the following :
- Severe pain or pressure lasting more than a few days
- Visible swelling inside or outside your mouth
- An allergic reaction to the medication (rash, hives or itching)
- Your bite feels uneven
- The temporary crown or filling, if one was put in place, falls out (losing a thin layer is normal)
- Symptoms you experienced before treatment return.
Root Canal Surgical Treatment After Care
- a) Swelling: It may begin 24 hours after surgery then increase for 48 hours, and gradually subside. Sleep with your head in an elevated position for the first couple of nights after surgery.
- b) Take Motrin tablets (600mg) every 4 to 6 hours for three days.
- c) If you cannot take NSAIDs(Advil/Ibuprofen/Motrin, etc) or if you are allergic to Aspirin, take Tylenol (500-1000 mg) every 4 to 6 hours for three days. If you cannot take any of these, please consult with us.
- d) Antibiotic: Use as prescribed.
- e) Ice pack: Use 10 min on/10 min off to minimize swelling
- f) Mouth rinse: Use as prescribed

g) Refrain from smoking during the first 48 hours and minimize its frequency during the healing phase.
h) No strenuous exercise for 48 hours after surgery.
i) No drinking of alcoholic beverages while taking the prescribed medications.
